On Sunday April 20, 2014 all staff of Kaduna airport was
taken by surprise as the control tower of the Kaduna Airport gutted by fire
ignited by electrical fault. As a result, flights to the airport have been
temporarily suspended by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The
Managing Director of NAMA, Ibrahim Abdulsalam, said the fire incident was
attributed to power surge which immediately sparked fire that razed the entire
tower.
Abdulsalam who said all the personnel on duty were safely
evacuated, also said he has directed the immediate deployment of the agency’s
mobile tower currently in Abuja to Kaduna airport to resume normal services by
sunset, Monday 21, 2014.
NAMA in a release said it had issued NOTAM (Notice to Air
Men) to that effect informing the operating airlines locally and across the
globe of this development.
