The Kano State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, is pleased to inform the public of a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against armed robbery and criminal syndicates targeting Tricycle operators within Kano Metropolis.
On 21st July, 2026 at about 2330hrs, a distress call was received at Dala Police Division from a vigilant community member. The report revealed that one Abdulrahman Atula 'M', aged 22 years of Kawo Hotoro, a Tricycle rider, was lured by unknown persons, administered with an intoxicating substance, and subsequently robbed of his Tricycle at gunpoint.
Tricycle Details: Registration No. AJG 170 VC, KAROTA No. NSR 0709.
Upon receipt of the report, and in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Dala Police Division, immediately mobilized a patrol team to the area. With the active support and credible information provided by community members, the team embarked on an intelligence-led and sustained follow-up operation which led to the successful arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of the stolen Tricycle in their possession.
The suspects arrested are:
i. Usman Ashiru 'M', aged 26 years of Rijiyar Lemo
ii. Abubakar Ali 'M', aged 28 years of the same address.
The victim was promptly evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, and is currently responding to treatment.
During the course of investigation, ten other Tricycle operators who were previously robbed of their Tricycles using the same modus operandi at Dorayi and Bachirawa Quarters respectively, have come forward and positively identified the same suspects as the armed robbers responsible for their attacks.
This confirms that the suspects are part of an armed robbery syndicate that specializes in luring Tricycle riders, drugging them, and dispossessing them of their Tricycles.
The Kano State Police Command hereby calls on any other Tricycle operator who may have been robbed in the same manner within Kano Metropolis to:
i. Report immediately at Dala Police Division for identification parade, or
ii. Contact the Divisional Police Officer, Dala Police Division on 08036885094 to lodge a formal complaint.
Discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend more suspects and recover more exhibits. The case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Kano State Police Command commends the courage and vigilance of the community members and the good Samaritan whose prompt information and cooperation led to this arrest and recovery. We also appreciate the continued partnership of Tricycle operators and transport unions in supporting the Police to rid our streets of criminals.
The Command reiterates its commitment to the protection of lives and property and assures all residents that perpetrators of violent crime will be made to face the full wrath of the law. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest Police Station.
