Afrosoul sensation, Uchechi Emelonye, whose new EP, ‘Mixed Emotions’ with songs contained therein have continued to serenade the airwaves has revealed that her strongest lyrical energy comes when she is under a bathroom shower. The singer shared this bathtub secret as a guest on a popular TV show in Lagos.
According to the 22 year old lawyer, breaking barriers with her lyrical skills, her song ‘Underwater’ which clinched the BBC Music Introducing ‘Record of the Year 2022’ in Lancashire, England, was inspired during a shower, as water cascaded down her naked body. “I don’t think I have mentioned this elsewhere, but I get a lot of inspiration when I am under the shower. Lyrics come flooding my head when I go under water. I don’t know who else it happens to. But I sing a lot under the shower. My song, ‘Underwater’ came to me while I was having a shower”.
Uchechi Emelonye fondly called Princess of Afrosoul disclosed this aspect of her life while explaining the rationale behind ‘Mixed Emotions’, which has tracks like : My Time, First Time, Foolish, Over You, Dance and Margins released under the Emelux Records imprint, a burgeoning label founded on the pillars of providing a safe and enabling platform for African artistes to explore and enhance their talents.
Uchechi, the winner of 'New Female Artiste of the Year' category at the 2nd Ladies in Media Awards (LIMA), had earlier released singles such as ‘Little Black Bird’ and Sunrise to Sundown’.
