The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa has praised the supports and contributions of their international counterparts in the success stories of the agency.

Marwa, who spoke through a Director in the Agency, Samuel Gadzama, Wednesday at the public destruction by burning of seized illicit drugs in Enugu State, assures that NDLEA will take the fight against drugs abuse and illicit trafficking to the door steps of offenders.

Giving a breakdown of the illicit drugs being destroyed, the Enugu State Commander of the Agency, Anietie Idim Bassey says the substances totalling over 23,721.7 tonnes were seized between 2008 and 2022.

Bassey explains that the open burning exercise was part of ongoing efforts to curb the abuse and trafficking of illicit drugs in the communities and the country at large.

He noted that the illicit drugs were sized at various communities in Enugu State, as well as at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

The NDLEA is commending the collaborative efforts of security agencies in the State, while appealing for greater cooperation in the continued fight to have a drug free society
