Anambra state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, yesterday intervened in an extreme case of child abuse at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, where a 6-year-old child, Miss Amanda was rescued from an abusive foster mother, Mrs Agatha Uba.

Agatha, a 39-year-old farmer, petty trader from Awo Idemili, Osu, Local Government Area, Imo State resides at Adagbe Village, Abagana with her husband and three other children whom she claimed to have adopted from different locations as she does not have biological children of her own.

The Commissioner explained that the rescue was made possible following complaints by concerned citizens who reported the maltreatment, starvation and abuse at child department of the ministry stressing she will deploy a team soon to rescue the remaining and investigate to assertain the sources where they were adopted from.
