The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said the federal government cannot reopen schools at the moment because of the poor public perception and compliance to health protocol on COVID-19.

Yahya Disu, the head of NCDC’s risk communication, explained that re-opening schools now will further spread the disease because children were at risk of contracting the virus due to their inability to comply with the protocols, Daily Trust reported.

Disu made the statement during a webinar which was partly supported by the European Union, (EU).

He also pointed out that with the coming of the raining season which comes along with an increase in flu-like diseases, children run the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19 if schools are reopened now.

In another report, Nigerians will be expecting the federal government to remove restrictions on the interstate travel when the President Muhammadu Buhari approved the next stage of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic after a meeting with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on coronavirus.
