The mud wall of Nursery 1 class of Monsil International School Kado, Abuja, last week collapsed on the pupils during breakfast. A situation that led to the death of 4-year-old David Jacob and left two of his classmates injured.


David sustained injuries in the head and was taken to a public hospital in Gwarinpa where he died.

Director of the FCT Department of Quality and Advanced Education Secretariat, Mr. Ayuba Didam, said the school, owned by one Mr Ogbonna Ubah, had since been closed. He said the school was neither registered nor accredited and has been closed several times by authorities but was reopened by the proprietor illegally.

David’s mother, Salamatu Jacob, said “From all indication, the building collapsed directly on his head. He was my first son. They were two. His brother is still alive. David was lovely and very intelligent,” she said.

Two other pupils – Gambo Isa and Treasure Felix – survived the incident, a teacher  in the school said.
