Police in Lagos has arrested a 41-year-old man, Adeniyi Adewale, aka Baba Adura, for allegedly raping his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter inside a toilet at their Amuwo Odofin,  Festac Town residence.

The report of medical tests carried out on the minor at the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, Lagos State University, indicated that she had bruises in her private parts while her hymen was ruptured.


According to the girl, she was in the toilet when Baba Adura barged in on March 16, loosened his belt and raped her, Punch reports.

In her report to the police, she said, "I just came back from the school on that day and went to the toilet. Baba Adura entered the toilet, removed his belt and raped me. When my sister came back, I told her what Baba Adura did to me."

The victim’s mother, Kehinde, said the incident was reported to the chairman of the residents’ association in the area, adding that her daughter stood her ground before Baba Adura when he was invited by the chairman.

She said, "I went to plait my hair on that day. I came back around 8pm and my younger sister, who lives with us, told me what my daughter confided in her. I informed my husband on the telephone and he told me to report to the chairman.

"The chairman invited Baba Adura and my daughter told the chairman the same thing. But Baba Adura denied it. The matter was later reported at the Festac Police Station and Baba Adura was apprehended.

In his statement to the police, Baba Adura, denied committing the crime. He said, "I only helped her to wash her spoon after it fell while she was eating. In the evening, I was surprised when the girl said I raped her. I did not do anything to her. I am married with three children. I only assisted to wash her buttocks last year when her mother was not around."

A police prosecutor, Sergeant Francisca Okere, subsequently brought Baba Adura before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on one count of rape.

The charge read, "That you, Adeniyi Adewale (41), on March 16, 2016, at about 2pm, at Flat 4, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos, at Apapa Magisterial District, did unlawfully have sexual intercourse with a four-year-old girl, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011."

The accused pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Adegbite, admitted him to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The matter was adjourned till June 9, 2016.
