The former Governor of Old Kaduna state, Alhaji Lawal Kaita is dead. Aged 86 years, Late Kaita died after a protracted illness at a private hospital in Abuja.

Confirming the death, the secretary of Katsina Emirate Council, Bello Ifo said the deceased will be buried after funeral prayers at the palace of the Emir of Katsina this morning. 

Late Kaita had served as a civilian governor between October and December 1983 under the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), during the second republic. 

He was born on October 4, 1932, to a Katsina royal family. He attended Barewa College, Zaria between 1946-1950; and was at the London School of Economics between 1971-72.
