Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday ambushed a convoy of
Nigerian troops on Maiduguri-Damboa Highway, killing at least 10 soldiers.
According to the source, the terrorists planted mines on the
highways on the fringes of Sambisa Forest, killing 10 soldiers and wounding
others.
“We were stopped by a military convoy,” a commercial driver
told SaharaReporters. “The soldiers’ vehicle drove over IEDs [improvised
explosive devices], and then the terrorists opened fire on them and killed at
least 10 soldiers.”
Another motorist said the military vehicle was damaged
beyond repair.
"I was at the scene when a military ambulance came at
about 1 p.m. on Sunday to evacuate corpses. All vehicles were asked to stop
until they evacuated all the slain soldiers,” he said.
As at the time of publication, the Nigerian Army has yet to
release a statement on the matter.
