Poised to enrich the discourse on good governance in the
country, a new book, Portrait of Performance: Understanding Vision Behind
Obiano's Achievements is set to be formally presented to the Nigerian
media. Slated for Tuesday October 3, 2017, the event, an initiative of the
Independent Media Support Organisation, IMSO, kicks off at 11am at Gosmilla
Hotel, Awka, Anambra State. The book, written by a seasoned journalist, Ngozi
Emedolibe, a member of IMSO, takes a cursory look at the state of governance in
the South Eastern region, with a particular emphasis on Anambra State, where
Chief Willie Obiano has been at the helm of affairs in the past three years.
Divided into fifteen chapters, the 280-page book, is a
reflection of what has been going on in the state of Anambra in various sectors
in the past couple of years with an emphasis on the reality that governance
should be hinged on enablers which stimulate economic growth for the general
wellbeing of the citizenry, while proffering a dependable module to be adopted
in the SE zone for the rapid development of the region.
The book whose foreword was written by Dr. Chukwuemeka
Ezeife, a former Governor of Anambra State, according to the author, Ngozi
Emedolibe, serves not only as a documentation of facts but also a call to duty
for all citizens on the need to interrogate the ambitions of intending leaders
based on their actions and inactions while in other ventures other than
politics. According to the author, this will help to gauge what the performance
of the candidate will be in office. “ My book is a little way of sensitizing
the people on the need to probe people’s ambition, recognize talent and support
them when there is need. I have done this, first and foremost, as a journalist
charged with the responsibilty of keeping records straight and secondly as a
citizen desirous of a better society”.
According to the Executive Director of the Independent Media
Support Organisation, Ogbuefi Harris Chuma: "At IMSO, we are committed to
bringing to the fore all the feats that have been recorded in Anambra in the
past 3 years under Governor Obiano, which the book has succinctly
captured".
Emedolibe, with over 15 years experience is an editor, whose
body of works has enriched the arts, culture and investigative journalism
sectors of the Nigerian media.
