A 26-year-old man, Adananu Abdullahi, on Thursday appeared in a Grade 1 Area Court in  Kubwa for alleged theft of a woman’s hand bag and cell phone valued at N55,000.

The defendant, a resident of  Gbazango, Kubwa, Abuja, was charged with  criminal conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor,  Babajide Olanipekun,  told the court that one Njideka Iwunze of  Pipeline, Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Aug. 15.

He said the defendant and one other person at large attacked the complainant and stole her hand bag containing an Infinix cell phone valued at N55,000.

The prosecutor  added that other items in the bag were three ATM cards and house keys, adding that the offence contravened sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however,  pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Mohammed Marafa,  granted the defendant bail in the sum of  N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Marafa, who said the address of the surety must  be verified by the prosecutor,  adjourned the case till  Oct. 13 for hearing. (NAN).
