The police in Gwarinpa have arrested an artisan over alleged attempt to rape his former lover. According to the Police, the suspect had forcefully pulled off the girl’s clothes before she was rescued on Tuesday at about 9:00p.m.

The suspect, identified only as Chukwudi had invited his ex-lover who had relocated to somewhere in Galadimawa to his workshop on Third Avenue under the pretense that he had helped her secure a job.

He kept the girl, who arrived at about 3:00p.m., at his workshop for more than four hours because he had wanted to take her to his house but she refused.

“The girl said she was leaving for Area 10 when she realised his intention. He offered to accompany her but when they arrived Third Avenue road and didn’t get a taxi he said they should walk towards Old Life Camp road where it would be easier to get a taxi,” a source said.

The source said as they were trekking to the place, they got to a bush path where he dragged her into  a drainage and pulled of her clothes in an attempt to rape her.

“She shouted and passers-by came to her rescue and alerted the police,” the source said.

The source said the suspect escaped before the arrival of the police.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the victim led police officers to the suspect’s house where he was arrested. He said the girl’s handbag, handset and other items were found inside the ceiling in his room, Daily Trust reports.

“We recovered her clothes, shoes and underwear from the bush near the scene. He is in custody; we are still investigating and he would be prosecuted.

“The victim has been taken to the hospital because she sustained some bruises from the incident,” he said.
