Justice Mohammed Mayaki of the Niger State High Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu in prison custody pending the ruling on his bail application.

He also ordered that a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Umar Nasko, be remanded alongside Mr. Aliyu in a medium-security prison in Minna, Niger State.

The judge made the order after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its prosecutor, Gbolahan Latona, docked the two politicians on a six-count charge bordering on fraud.

The Punch reports that both Mr. Aliyu and Mr. Nasko pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

The court will rule on the duo’s bail applications on May 3 and begin the trial on June 12.
