A motorcycle thief in Kuje area of Abuja on Monday strangled a commercial cyclist, identified as Gbeduba before stealing his motorcycle. A motorist returning from Kuje town to the village discovered the body of the cyclist by the roadside.

He said the deceased cyclist was found with injuries on his neck.

He said it was discovered that the cyclist had picked two unidentified persons at Kuchiako near Kuje town, and that along the way one of them used a rope to tie the cyclist’s neck after stabbing him.

"It was through enquiries that it was discovered that one of the motorcycle snatchers brought out a thick rope and tied the cyclist’s neck, after stabbing him all over parts of his body before they abandoned him and escaped with his motorcycle," he said.

The cyclist earlier conveyed the snatchers to a drinking spot where they allegedly bought some drinks before they rode out, strangled him and escaped with his motorcycle, Daily Trust reports.

He said the remains of the deceased was later taken to Pegni village, where he hailed from for burial.

It was further learnt that the suspected motorcycle snatchers had negotiated to pay the deceased the sum of N3,000 to convey them to  Buzunkure village, where they claimed to be timber operators.
