The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday November 4, 2016, arraigned one Kayode Adeyefa before Justice A. D Oladimeji of the Osun State High Court, sitting at Ila- Orangun on a 4-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.


The accused person, Kayode Adeyefa was alleged to have diverted the sum of N12, 559,800.00 belonging to the Osun State College of Education Student Insurance Welfare Scheme which was insured in an insurance company where he worked. Adeyefa collected 15 cheques of different amounts to the tune of N12,559,800.00 from the scheme for onward remittance to the insurance company's headquarter in Lagos. But diverted all the cheques for personal use. When the College approached the insurance company for the Scheme, there was no record of their payments. Hence, the petition to the EFCC.

Adeyefa however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

One of the charge reads: "Kayode Adeyefa between the Months of June and November, 2013 at Ila-Orangun within the Osogbo Judicial Division with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N3,650,000.00 (Three Million Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun under the false pretence that same was premium payment for Student Insurance Welfare Scheme''.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Sanusi Musa Galadanchi asked for a trial date and prayed the court to give the matter accelerated hearing.

But the defense Counsel, Olajide E. Egbetunde informed the court that he earlier filed bail application and sought the leave of the court to move the motion.

Justice Oladimeji granted the accused person bail in the sum of five million Naira and 2 sureties in like sum. The 2 sureties must be civil servants working in Osun State on a grade level not less than 12, must submit photo copies of letter of appointment and last promotion letter, must depose to affidavit of means, must submit photocopies of either the National I. D card, current drivers licence or voters card and must summit verifiable phone number to the registrar of Osun state high court.


While adjourning the matter to the 25th of November, 2016 for hearing, Justice Oladimeji ordered that the accused person be remanded in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Oshogbo pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
