President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that the federal government is reviewing the implementation of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme to determine the shortcomings and areas for reform. This was stated on his Twitter handle after the meeting with Niger Delta leaders and stakeholders at the State House in Abuja.


"At our meeting today the Leaders and Stakeholders of the Niger Delta, led by Chief Edwin Clark, presented a list of 16 issues for dialogue. The issues presented ranged from Infrastructure needs to the strengthening of institutions like the NDDC, and matters of fiscal federalism.

"We are currently reviewing the implementation of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, to determine the shortcomings, and areas for reform.

"Nigeria cannot thrive if any part of it is trapped in conflict and violence. We have to give peace a chance in the Niger Delta."
