A scavenger, 22, Hashimu Lawal is in police net in Abuja for stabbing a housewife, jamila Adamu, at Unguwar Subiru in Dei-Dei, in Abuja. The suspected reportedly went to the woman’s house on Wednesday and attempt to steal her empty drum of water.

The woman went out to get water from a borehole and when she returned home she saw the accused trying to take away the empty drum at the backyard of the house, and that she rushed and held onto his clothes as he attempted to escape.

“It was as she held onto his shirt and raised an alarm to attract attention of neighbours that the scavenger used a sharp object and stabbed her on the hand,” he said.

He said the suspect, who escaped after inflicting the injury on the woman, was arrested by some neighbours who beat him into a coma.

He said the suspect was later handed over to the police at Dei-Dei and the woman’s husband, who was not at home, was contacted on phone, Daily Trust reports.
