A bank cashier has been arrested for allegedly defrauding
the bank of N2.8 million in Gwarinpa, Abuja. The cashier, identified as Duru
Samuel, overpaid a customer and when the customer refunded the excess, he hid
the money.
Subsequently, a
cleaner came the following morning and discovered the money and alerted the
bank’s management.
"The cashier forgot that there were CCTV cameras everywhere
and when the money was found, the management reviewed the CCTV recordings and
they saw how the suspect hid the money," the source said.
He added that same day Samuel was being investigated by his
employers, a customer came forward and complained that he was making deposits
which were not reflecting in his account balance.
"When the complainant’s claims were checked, it was found
that the suspect was diverting the deposits to his personal use".
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwarinpa, CSP
Nuruddeen Sabo, said the suspect would soon be charged to court for cheating
and breach of trust.
