A 48-year- old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl at Karmo village, an Abuja suburb.  A resident of the area, identified only as Ishaku, said the incident happened last Thursday evening at about 4:12 p.m.

He alleged that the accused who owns a provision store in the area lured the victim with some biscuits and a bottle of juice before he took her into a make- shift wooden kiosks to defile her, Daily Trust reports.

According to him, the girl was sent to buy sachet water at the shop when the shop owner took advantage of her.

“In fact, the girl’s mother normally sends her to the man’s shop to buy things and the man took that advantage and enticed the girl with biscuits and juice.

“The girl’s mother later went after her daughter after she waited for several minutes without seeing her. She saw the girl near the shop crying and when she enquired, she discovered that the suspect allegedly raped the girl,” he said.

He said the woman raised alarm which attracted youths in the area who pounced on the suspect.

He said the suspect was almost stripped naked, but was saved by some elders in the area.

He added that the suspect was later handed over at the Gwagwa police station, after the girl’s father who was not at home returned.

A source at the police station, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect will be charged to court after investigations have been concluded.
