A 60-year-old woman was found dead in her bed five months
before anyone even noticed her absence. It wasn't until August 14 when a
neighbor called the sheriff's office for someone to check on Gwendolyn Johnson.
Her neighbors hadn't noticed that her two vehicles went
unmoved for two months or that an orange tag was posted to her front door in
Kentucky signifying that her electricity had been cut off, according to
the Bowling Green Daily News.
Only when Johnson's mail piled up did someone call police to
check on her.
The Warren County Coroner's Office estimated that Johnson had been dead between five and six months.
Her remains were found in her bed after a Warren County
Sheriff's deputy called for help from a volunteer fire department to force
entry into her locked home, the Daily News reported.
But it's not uncommon for deaths like Johnson's to go
unnoticed for days, weeks or months at a time.
