Police in Lagos State have arraigned a shoe cobbler, Ganiu
Anjorin and salesgirl, Opeyemi Suarau, who worked with a supermarket in Lagos
Island for allegedly stealing the sum of N11.4m, belonging to a businesswoman,
Omobola Akintoye.
They were brought before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on
Thursday on three counts of stealing. The police alleged that Suarau, who
worked at the supermarket, connived with the cobbler, who is her boyfriend, to
perpetrate the crime between February and July, 2016.
While the salesgirl reportedly got N400,000 from the sum,
the cobbler allegedly collected N11 million.
A police prosecutor, Mr. Jimoh Joseph, told the court that
the offence contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos
State, 2011.
The charge read in part, “That you, Ganiu Anjorin, between
February and July, 2016, at 47 Dosunmu Street, Lagos Island, in the Lagos
Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N11 million, property of one Omobola
Akintoye.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Soladoye, granted them bail
in the sum of N1m each with two sureties each in like sum. The case was
adjourned till November 9, 2016.
