Rights groups in Japan are calling for the release of a Nigerian woman, Elizabeth Aruoriwo Obueza, who is being held in solitary confinement after her asylum request was rejected.

She was detained two weeks ago after the authorities dismissed her claim that she needed to stay in Japan to avoid religious persecution at home.  Since then, she has spent more than 22 hours a day in a small cell.

Japan rejected 99% of asylum requests last year, accepting 27 refugees.
