A 28-year-old man, Nasiru Yahaya has allegedly stabbed and
injured his friend, Aliyu Saidu, at a viewing centre over last weekend’s Premiere
League football match between Chelsea and Leicester City at Madalla, Niger
State.
An argument ensued between Nasiru Yahaya, the accused who is
a fan of Leicester City and the victim, who supported Chelsea Football Club.
The two friends had betted N500 on the match, but when
Chelsea eventually won the match, the accused refused to give the victim N500,
leading to a severe argument that resulted to a fight. The accused allegedly
ran to a nearby shop, carried a bottle, broke it and stabbed his friend on his
hands and back, Daily Trust reports.
After the incident, the accused fled the scene when other fans tried to stop him from killing his friend but he was later arrested by vigilantes and handed over to the police.
He added that the injured victim was taken to clinic in the area for treatment.
