The Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said it has intercepted 25.2 kilograms of
Methamphetamine worth 1.7 billion Naira from a vehicle carrying the dangerous
substance.
Addressing journalists at the Onitsha Command of the Agency
on the latest development, the State Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, says the
command received intelligence information of the shipment of the dangerous
drugs into the state for onward movement to Lagos.
In a swift stop and search exercise, the agency luckily
intercepted the substance and arrested a 31 year old suspected hard drug
dealer, Vincent Chidiebere.
Mr Momodu said the chemicals used for the production are
highly toxic and can cause permanent destruction to the ecosystem while posing
a serious health hazard to the community where it is produced.
He reminded the public that Governor of the state, Willie
Obiano has pledged a reward of half a million Naira to anyone with information
on where the substances are being produced within the state and assured of the
readiness of the command, with support from the public in the area of
information, to fight the illicit drug production and peddling in the state.
In a similar development, the Anambra state Police Command
also paraded 20 suspected cultists and another notorious armed robbery suspect.
The new State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okaula,
reiterated his crime fighting commitment and warned all criminal elements in
Anambra state to relocate as the prevailing peace and security in the state can
never be compromised.
Mr. Okaula said he has directed the Divisional Police
Officers, Area Commanders and Heads of Departments to display their numbers for
the public to access, as his own would also be displayed to ensure a collective
attack on crime and criminality in the state.
