Asaba, Delta State based politician, Ms Igho Ugbegu has described the Appeal Court victory of Labour party Delta Central Senatorial candidate, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege over the People’s Democratic Party flag bearer, Chief Ighoyota Amori, as “justice well served”.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City, Edo State last week sacked Amori from the Senate and ordered the immediate swearing-in of Omo-Agege, after a long drawn legal battle which saw Amori winning first at the Election Tribunal in Asaba.

Ugbegu, a grassroots female politician and executive of Doely Intermediaries, organizers of the annual Delta Governorship Election Live TV debate said Omo-Agege’s Appeal Court victory was a confirmation of the people of Delta Central’s mandate, freely given to him in the April election. “I am happy and I am also excited that my amiable leader, a man of peace and a dogged fighter, Chief Ovie Omo-Agege, finally retrieved his mandate from the hands of the temporary owner. In fact, Amori was holding the mandate (not in trust) for him till the appointed day when the Appeal Court showed him the door out of the Senate. For us from the Delta Central and Orogun people in particular, we want to use this medium to thank God this victory and the judges of the Appeal Court for not bowing to pressure and intimidation. I want to also thank President Muhammadu Buhari, a man who has restored hope to Nigeria and Nigerians, for not interfering in election petition issues unlike some past presidents.”

The Doely Intermediaries executive who spoke to the media at her Asaba base said Nigeria’s democracy is growing by the day: “Our democracy is growing; people are becoming more aware of the need to elect credible politicians who will help develop their regions, states and country. Omo-Agege is one man that Delta Central people have absolute trust in to bring to the district, quality representation. We trusted him enough to elect him; even though some people wanted to steal our trust, we are confident he will not disappoint us at the Senate.  The message to all politicians especially in this new era of Change, is rig your way into office and be ready to get kicked out by the courts because the national sanitation embarked upon by President Buhari has got to the judiciary. Once again, we thank God for Omo-Agege’s victory and we call on all especially supporters of the ousted opponent to sheathe the sword of anger and bitterness and let us all come together to develop Delta Central Senatorial District,” she submitted.
