Following the bitter story of blogger, Sugabelly, who alleged that she was serially raped by Mustapha Audu and his friends, Nollywood movie director, producer and writer, Charles Novia has not only thrown his weight behind her, but also dropped few words for pervasive rape cases in the country, urging Nigerian women to speak up when faced with such situations.

"Having read what @sugabelly narrated about her rape ordeal, I am horrified. I believe her. This happened. She's brave and may God heal her. Somehow, Sugabelly is bringing to the fore the fact that women in Nigeria should speak out more about rape and sexual harassment.

Whatever anyone says,I chose to believe that somehow there is a ring of truth in Sugabelly's story. She was gang raped at a lover's behest. It is that violation of her person by a gang bang of her man's posse which destroys her; the memory of a hurt; a pain. That doesn't go away.

Let this case go to the courts of law in Nigeria and even elsewhere. The final judgement wouldn't matter; what would is that new voice...that vice which will embolden women all over Nigeria not to embrace the darkness of their pain but glow in the light of a new dawn.

Our Nigerian society takes rape for granted. Yes.Women are violated daily.Examples? That Lecturer giving marks for blackmailed sex? Rape! Those uncouth and rough traders in market places in Lagos and elsewhere, pinching bums of females and grabbing their hands and butts? Rape

Rape is not only a brutal physical penetration;t is an intention to destroy the pride of any woman;to violate her self-esteem. That's rape. This cry of silence from the victims in Nigeria must stop. We must encourage their wails for justice. I stand with the victims. Peace," He wrote on twitter.
