A 33-year-old trader identified as, Elizabeth Okolie has been arrested by the Police in Asaba, Delta for allegedly selling her baby for N1.5m. She allegedly sold her baby when the purported father refused to accept the paternity.


The police commissioner in the state, Alkali Usman, confirmed that detectives acting on a tip off arrested the woman on her way to Benin City after she had allegedly sold the baby to unidentified buyer. The police boss said the woman upon interrogation, made useful statements to the police adding that the police detectives are now after the buyer of the baby.

Usman said, “We arrested the woman through useful information provided by members of the public. We were told she put to bed three months ago and sold the baby to an unidentified buyer after she had quarrels with the man whom she claimed to be her husband. She said the man denied the paternity of the child.

“We have made frantic efforts to bring the buyer to book and our men have gone after the buyer while the woman is currently in our custody helping the police with investigation.”
