All road leading to Amamputu Uli in Anambra State witnessed
gridlock over the weekend as America based socialite, Benny Chinedu Obiasogu
popularly known as Ten P bade his beloved parent an epoch-making
farewell in a in carnival like event.
The burial rites, which commenced on Thursday, 20th August
2015 pulled out indigenes of Oraifite, Umuoma, Amamputu and surrounding clans
in their thousands as they paid their last respect to Nnaoma, Ogbuehi Ezenwafo
Moses Emejuru Obiasogu and Ezinne Margaret Ajahalonu Obiasogu, parents of the
Island big boy, Ten P.
Sources close to the family disclose to us that the
84-year-old Moses Obiasogu who was also one of the Ndi Ichie of the Uli Ruling
Council gave up the ghost some minutes after he heard the news of the passing
on of his cherished his wife.
The remains of the Obiasogus arrived Uli on Friday the
21st and were taken to the Igwe’s Palace where a drama and traditional rites
were performed by the council of Chiefs in honour of the deceased led by the
Eze Udoka the 2nd of Uli, Sir Igwe Damian Okekaibeya Onyekaonwu.
Shortly after the corpses were laid at the Obiasogu's family
house where friends, family members and the entire Uli community came together
to pay their last respect amidst tears and joyful celebration of the life and
times of the rare and never to be forgotten couple.
During the service of songs conducted by the faithful of St
Anthony of Padua Parish Uli in honour of the deceased, the Catechist described
the couple as true Christian who dedicated their time for the service of God
and the community who never relented till they joined the saints.
In recognition of the dedicated service of the late Moses
Obiasogu,to his community and for continuation of same, the royal council of
Uli and indeed the entire town, unanimously asked the chief mourner, Benny
Chinedu Obiasogu, to step into his father's shoes by bestowing on him the
traditional title of ‘The Ogbuehi of Uli land’, as formerly held by his father
until his demise.
This is a clear response to prayers of fathers who
want their child(ren) to walk in their exemplary shoes as soon as they bid the
world farewell.
Ten P afterwards was conferred with the chieftaincy title,
The Ogbuehi of Uli land. So, when next you see the young man, Benny, Ten P
around you, remember he is now a respected red cap chief with full royal
benefits.
In appreciating the honour bestowed on him by the King, Ten
P said, "the honour is well cherished by me and I will forever remember the son
of whom I’m. I promise to uphold the honour and integrity of my parents by
committing myself to the social welfare of my community in no small measure
within the confines of my capacity".
