Following the embarrassing defeat at the polls, the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) has begun talks of re-organizing the party to prepare
itself for the battle up ahead of the 2019 presidential polls. Strong moves are
said to be currently underway to silently sweep away ‘moles’ within the
executive echelons of the party.
One of the outgoing honorable ministers intimated our
correspondent that the leadership of the party is aware of the roles played by
many of the members of the national working committee [NWC] during the period
leading up to the presidential elections and during the elections. The
honorable minister pointed to the easy going nature of President Jonathan as
largely responsible for the shenanigans that soiled the present PDP. “There
were too many APC members inside our NWC, even the national chairman of the
party is a mole that we know” stated the honorable minister who went on to add
that the party will rebuild and become an even greater party. “I will remain a
member of the PDP. I am going no where. I am a real Nigerian“.
The honorable minister indicated that talks and meetings are
being held by the movers and shakers of the party to initiate the explosion of
a larger part of the NWC – and to flush out the moles – and double agents in the
party who were afraid of offending the APC. The minister pointed accusing
finger at the image maker of the PDP as one of the officials of the PDP that
let the party down. “Our image maker refused to criticize the presidential
candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), he kept making overseas trip
to Europe“.
Confirming the revelations of the minister was an executive
aide to the vice president. The aide to vice president Sambo confirmed that the
party have compiled a list of names of party officials who were believed to
have engaged in anti-party activities during the presidential polls. The list,
according to the aide, will be put to use immediately the swearing-in and
handover have been completed.
"We want Jonathan as our leader and not Obasanjo," said the
top aide who also indicated that most of the members of the PDP are not willing
to have Obasanjo back to the party. He explained that the PDP will allow a
former president who defaced the PDP on national television to return to the
leadership ranks of the party. "He torn his membership card on national
television. He is no longer with us. We will not miss him."
The aide continued that the PDP will not lack funds as the
south south states remain with PDP. “We will mount a very stiff opposition to
the APC“.
But not all members of the PDP agree that the NWC should be
flushed out. Members of the Minister of Education, Malam Shekarau political
camp believe that the NWC ought to be retained and punished rather expulsion. They
reasoned that the PDP must grow beyond retributive stands. One of the members
stated that "PDP is bigger than the pettiness of going after the members of the
NWC".
