In Commemoration of the United Nations International Women's Day celebration on the 8th of March every year, The Pearls Network, an NGO that specialises in empowerment programs for women and teenage girls, is organising a debate and red carpet conference event.  Billed for Sunday the 8th of March 2015, the event would hold at the conference hall of Avenues to Wealth, Olufunmilola Okikiolu street, off Toyin street, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking with the Convener and CEO of The Pearls Network Mrs. Beulah Marshall (who also is a veteran OAP and talk show host), she said the event is geared towards sensitising Nigeria women on the need to take up the challenge of participating in opportunities to occupy leadership positions whether at the work place or in public offices. " Giving the current political dispensation women are advised to participate in politics. Politics is no longer a thing that should be left for the men alone. Although some people even women have argued that women should not be allowed to occupy sensitive positions In public offices giving that we are the weaker vessels and as such can only produce weaker or inferior results from the men. But all that has long changed. Unfortunately not every one agrees. Not even all women buy into this school of thought and that's why we have put together a team of very enlightened personalities to come and banter on this matter and hope we eventually lend a voice to the clarion call for women to take up leadership roles and challenges." she says.

The debate topic which is 'Women In Leadership Positions: Pros and Cons; for and against' has amongst it's panel of debaters foremost female rights advocate and convener of the Campaign for Democracy Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin, the only female governorship hopeful at the Lagos state APC 2015 gubernatorial primaries in the state who also is the Special Assistant to the Governor on Schools Environmental Advocacy, Ministry of The Environment Mrs Adetokunbo Tobun Agbesanwa, Senior Pastor of Grace Family International Church Reverend Deola Ojo, Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) Governorship candidate for Lagos state 2015 elections and wife of acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election MKO Abiola, Mrs. Modupe Abiola, National Chairman Unity Party of Nigeria and founder of the Ooduawa's People's Congress (OPC ) Dr. Frederick Faseun, CEO Teemark Advertising Dr. Taiwo Ayodeji amongst others.

This year's theme for the International Women's day is 'make it happen'. So let's make it happen as the event is free and open to members of the public especially women. Dress code is 'look chic'.

It would be recalled that very recently the founder Guru maharaj in Nigeria was quoted by some online media as saying that women should not be allowed to preach in church or take up leadership roles which sparked heated debates online where people took diverse opinions on the subject matter. This is more or less giving people the avenue to air their views on the subject matter while getting enlightened on gender equality especially regarding public or political positions.
