A 12-year old boy who was identified as Onyedikachi Mbanozo, has been beaten to death by his guardian, Mr Paul Obiefule in Omitola street, Agege area of Lagos. Onyedikachi was reportedly brought from the village by Mr and Mrs Paul Obiefule, last year, with a promise to send him to school. The couple reportedly kept to their promise by enrolling him in Holy Trinity Primary School, Agege,where he started from primary one.Information gathered from residents revealed that Mbanozo was allegedly often beaten at the slightest provocation by his guardians.

Top actor/director Desmond Elliot, actresses Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, and Monalisa Chinda have signed on as ambassadors for New Nation‘s “Kill the Killers” initiative. The campaign is to raise awareness as well as help fight against Diabetes and Blood Pressure. The deal was signed today Friday May 30, 2014 in Port Harcourt.

There has been strong rumours that former NAFDAC boss, Prof Dora Akunyili is dead. However, her media aide, Isaac Ummuna took to her Facebook page this evening to refute the rumours. He stated: "Pls disregard the rumour about Prof. Dora Akunyili's purported death. It's the same baseless rumour circulated every 2/3 days by some people for reasons best known to them. They have been at this for about 4 weeks now and are likely to continue, since they apparently derive pleasure from doing so. The situation, as confirmed by former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, who visited Dora in the hospital earlier this week, is that she is getting better. Around 2 a.m. today Friday May 30, gunmen kidnapped 90-year-old Ogboro Dark, the mother-in-law of Kombowei Benson, the speaker of the Bayelsa State legislature. The aged woman was kidnapped from her home in Korokorosei, a riverine town in the Southern Ijaw local government area. The armed men shot in the air, frightening other residents of the community. After abducting Mrs. Dark, her kidnappers reportedly sped off in two or three speedboats.

First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited has organised an awareness campaign against crime and corruption in conjunction with Crime Network News (CN News). Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a member representing the South-South region in the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Dr. Sylvanus Mordi. The kidnappers have already contacted Mordi’s family to demand a N10 million ransom for his release.

A onetime general manager of Radio Kogi and Benue, Chief Isah Edime produced 'Democracy in Action' for Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Kaduna between 1979 and 1983.
The Federal Taskforce officials clashed with officers of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit at Tollgate area of Lagos, leading to the arrest of over 200 men of the Federal Taskforce. Problem kicked-off when members of the federal taskforce officials tried to stop officers of the Lagos Taskforce after they arrested a Sienna Space bus on BRT lane at Ketu areas. The federal taskforce officials, called Federal Road Committee Surveillance and Action Against Road Abuse (FERCSALA) brutalised the taskforce officials after they were told to release the offender.

Eyewitnesses have disclosed that the newly founded #ReleaseOurGirlsNow protesters attacked the #BringBackOurGirls protesters in Abuja. They allegedly used axes, machetes and cudgels to disrupt the Unity Fountain rally of #BringBackOurGirls group led by former Minister Oby Ezekwesili that is demanding more serious action by the Jonathan administration to rescue more than 200 schoolgirls abducted April 14 from their dormitories in Chibok, Bornu State.

World-renowned poet, author and activist Maya Angelou is dead. She died at age 85, two months after cekebrating her 85 birthday. Maya has written extensively about her life, starting with I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings in 1969. More than 40 years later, she opened up about one of the most important and complex relationships in her life: her relationship with her mother, Vivian Baxter.
On Wednesday May 28, students from various polytechnics and colleges of Educations took to the streets in Lagos, to protest the lingering strike embarked upon by Academic Unions in polytechnics that has left the tertiary institutions closed for more than 9 months. The placard carrying students demanded that the federal government should implement the 2009 ASUP agreement and end the HND/BSC dichotomy.
