Leading consumer packaged goods Company, Procter &
Gamble Nigeria (P&G) and Women Who Win (WWW) joined hands to inspire and
educate Nigerian school girls on good hygiene, healthy living and hard work on
the way to womanhood. WWW is a not-for-profit organization established to
inspire girls and women through mentoring sessions and by providing
intellectual, emotional, psychological and recreational support. The team visited the Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School
Yaba, where they mentored the teenage school girls, speaking on important
topics varying from maintaining good hygiene to what it takes to be successful
as a woman.
On hand to receive the P&G/WWW team is the school
principal, Mrs. Y. T. Ogunsulire and several teachers. Mrs. Ogunsulire
commented on the visit saying that, “we are particularly happy to welcome WWW
and P&G to our school premises. She admonished the children asking them to
pay attention to what the team had come to share. “They are here to inspire us
to become women we can all be proud of tomorrow” she said.
Mrs. Ogunsulire hailed P&G Nigeria Limited for what she
described as the company’s “strong commitment” to growth and well being of Nigerian
children. “They (P&G Nigeria Limited) have been contributing a lot in
uplifting children. What P&G and WWW are doing here today will, in no
doubt, have a positive influence in the lives of the students. It will help
them to grow up as the future leaders that they really should be”.
Nurse Adebayo Blessing Omolola, P&G’s Always Hygiene
Tutor took the students through a puberty and menstrual hygiene talk. Her
enlightening tutorial was well received by the students who enthusiastically
participated and followed up with pertinent questions.
Responding, P&G’s Company Communications Manager,
Olatomiwa Akande thanked the school and the students for the opportunity to
reach the girls. “She said P&G is happy to partner with Women Who Win (WWW)
in their drive to educate the over 600 female students of this school on the
importance of hygiene. “This partnership is in furtherance of our CSR platform
hinged on programs that address the following two focus areas for people around
the world: Comforts of Home and Health and Hygiene,” she stated.
The girls were also given a pep talk on "Growing into a
Winning Woman" by Tobi Martins from the Winning Women, just as the founder
of WWW, Ella Chuku, buttressed her call to social responsibility by well
meaning Nigerians and corporate citizens to contribute to nation building. Ella
also encouraged the girls to begin to think of how they could contribute to
nation building.
At the end of the session, each school girl was presented
with gift bags containing P&G personal hygiene products including Oral B,
Always, Safeguard and Ariel.
