Around 2 a.m. today Friday May 30, gunmen kidnapped 90-year-old Ogboro Dark, the mother-in-law of Kombowei Benson, the speaker of the Bayelsa State legislature. The aged woman was kidnapped from her home in Korokorosei, a riverine town in the Southern Ijaw local government area. The armed men shot in the air, frightening other residents of the community. After abducting Mrs. Dark, her kidnappers reportedly sped off in two or three speedboats.

Recall that few weeks ago, five Dutch nationals were kidnapped along the waterways of the state. The Dutch victims were subsequently freed under controversial circumstances that fingered the security aides of Governor Seriake Dickson paying ransom.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Hilary Opara, confirmed the kidnap of Mrs. Dark, assuring that the police were taking steps to rescue the elderly woman from her kidnappers.
