First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited has organised an awareness campaign against crime and corruption in conjunction with Crime Network News (CN News). The campaign, which is targeted at schools and students, was held at Government College Senior Secondary School, Surulere in Lagos last week.  It was part of activities of FCMB to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day held on May 27, 2014. The Bank said the campaign is also its contribution to further orientate children and inculcate positive values among them so as to ensure the success of the ongoing efforts by government and stakeholders to rebrand the country.

The awareness campaign was attended by over 500 students drawn from various schools in Lagos, including Iporin Estate Senior High School, Community Junior Grammar School, Itolo Girls Senior High School, Surulere Girls Senior High School, Gbaja Boys Senior High School, Adebola Baptist Senior High School, Eric Moore Senior High School, Government Senior College, Lagos Progressive Senior Secondary School and State Senior Grammar School.

Speaking at the programme, the CEO of CN News, Mr. Prosper Obi, said it was organised in a bid to put a limit to crime and corruption in the society. He noted that there was need to stop blaming government for the moral challenges facing the country, adding that individual efforts are also needed to make Nigeria better.

Commending FCMB for organising the campaign, a teacher with State Senior Grammar School, Surulere, Mr. Ayoola Oriyomi, said it will go a long way to discourage students from vices.  A student of the school, Master Tochukwu Obasi, observed that the event inspired him and his colleagues, saying that, ‘’it has taught us to always avoid crime and corruption’’. He advised that people should channel their talents towards nation-building.
