Information has it that Adekunle Awe, the Divisional Police
Officer (DPO), who was accused of raping a 31-year-old woman in Lagos may be
flown to Abuja today on the orders of the Police Inspector General, Mohammed
Abubakar. It was alleged that the state
command has received a signal ordering the Lagos State commissioner of police,
Mr Umar Manko to hand over the case file and suspect to police officers in
Abuja. It was claimed that the order was given so as to have a more thorough
investigation into the matter.
Awe, who was the DPO at the Onikan Police Station was said
to have raped the woman, Idowu Akinwunmi who was arrested in the company of
five others.
Akinwunmi who worked as a food vendor was reported to the
police by her boss who accused her of allowing men sleep over at the
restaurant. It was while she was in detentions that the randy DPO forcefully
had carnal knowledge of her.
Awe was arrested with two police inspectors and detained at
the state command headquarters, Ikeja.
