A shoe-maker identified as Zakky Muhammed,  who operates in Ilah area of Asaba, Delta State, has allegedly pummelled one of his customers to death with a hammer over the victim’s inability to pay his outstanding debts. The cobbler allegedly committed the crime at the weekend after a prolonged argument with the customer, who blatantly refused to pay an outstanding debt of N2,000. The argument was said to have degenerated into a fight, during which the cobbler used a hammer on the late customer’s head.
 
Police sources in the area said the cobbler upon his arrest confessed to have hit his customer on the head after being provoked by his unprintable words and refusal to pay the N2,000 debt.


A senior police officer in the area who confirmed the arrested of the cobbler disclosed that the suspect is still under interrogation while the corpse of the victim who died after bleeding profusely from the wounds inflicted on his head had been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary.
