WIZKID TO PERFORM AT YAHOO WIRELESS FESTIVAL


This year, the Yahoo! Wireless Festival is taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London across Friday 12 July, Saturday 13 July and Sunday 14 July. Nigerian pop sensation Wizkid and the “Azonto” pioneer, Fuse ODG have been billed to perform this year. Both acts follow in the footsteps of D’Banj who performed on the same stage last year. Wizkid and Fuse will be sharing the stage with International superstars Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, John Legend, Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, Emeli Sande, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Rita Ora and so many more.


ANDRE 3000’S MUM FOUND DEAD IN HER ATLANTA HOME


According to Billboard, Sharon Benjamin-Hodo, mother of popular US rapper Andre Lauren Benjamin, otherwise known as, Andre 3000 is dead. Billboard is reporting that Benjamin-Hodo was found dead in her Atlanta home on Monday May 28, 2013, one day after Andre’s 38th birthday. Cause of death remains unknown and the rapper has not spoken to the press either.


Andre 3000 is best known for being part of hip-hop duo OutKast alongside fellow rapper Big Boi.

SECOND WOOLWICH KILLER, MICHAEL ADEBOLAJO DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL



The second Woolwich killer, 28 year old Michael Adebolajo, was discharged from the hospital today. He has been taken into custody at a south London police station, where he will be questioned and charged for the murder of British soldier, Lee Rigby who was hacked to death on May 22.

Secret Service Stops Deadly Letter Sent to Obama

The Secret Service disclosed on Thursday, May 30, 2013 that authorities stopped a threatening letter addressed to President Barack Obama that was similar to ones sent to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Letters sent to Bloomberg and his gun control group contained material believed to be the deadly poison ricin and contained a reference to gun control, New York police said on Wednesday. A Secret Service official said the White House letter was similar but did not elaborate.

Reps Approve 14yrs Jail Term for Gay Couples, Outlaw Gay Clubs, Societies

The House of Representatives yesterday approved a 14-year jail sentence with no option of fine for the same sex couple even as it outlawed gay clubs and societies in Nigeria. Considering a report of a Bill for an Act to prohibit marriage or civil union entered between persons of the same sex, solemnization of the same and for other matters related, the lawmakers placed a 10-year jail term for members of gay associations or those who engaged in gay processions. The lawmakers said any marriage or civil union entered into by persons of the same gender was prohibited. The Bill on the same sex was introduced on the floor of the House last year.

Brother Stabs Sister to Death Over Noodles

Girl, 23 has been stabbed to death by her brother during a fracas over noodles meal in Warri, Delta State. It was informed that misfortune started when the victim, in a fury, inflicted injuries on her brother with a sharp razor blade, which resulted to serious bleeding. It was gathered that her brother, in a bid to avenge the harm done to him, picked up a sharp object, later identified as knife and stabbed his sister in the neck, which subsequently led to her death instantly.

20 Die in Ghastly Auto Crash in Bayelsa

No fewer than 20 persons were reported dead in a motor accident in Amassoma, Yenagoa, on Wednesday. The 20 persons were mostly part-time students of the state-owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma who were returning from lectures in a 13-seater bus that collided with another that was returning to Amassoma from Yenagoa.

Lagos Govt Unveils 57 Adopted Athelets

Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola on Friday unveiled 57 athletes who have been adopted by sponsors in the state’s Adopt-A-Talent sports programme. Governor Fashola said that the future of Nigerian sports can only be built on young athletes that are tapped at their tender ages, noting that the problem of Nigeria’s poor performance in sports emerged because there is a fixation about getting immediate results.

Yobe Gov Reshuffles Cabinet, Splits Education Ministry

Despite being in a state of emergency, the Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam, reshuffled his cabinet on Thursday, May 30, 2013 with the splitting of Ministry of Education, into Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher education. This development came three days after the Governor also declared a state of emergency in the state’s education and the health sectors. The secretary to the state government, Babagoni Machina revealed in his statement that “with the split of Ministry of Education into two, Aji Yerima Bularafa who is the former Commissioner of Youth and social development is to head the Higher Education Ministry while Mohammed Lamin of Transport and Energy, is to take charge of the Ministry of Education.”

NIGERIA’S FIRST CABLE BRIDGE COMMISSIONED IN LAGOS


Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola yesterday commissioned the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, where he paid glowing tribute to the late President of Nigeria, Musa Yar’Adua, saying he played a pivotal role in the successful construction of the bridge.

The governor, who spoke at the ceremony held on the new bridge, recalled the challenges initially encountered by the state government when the idea of the bridge was first conceived.

HOW OGUN TRADITIONAL RULER WAS ABDUCTED BY MEN IN POLICE UNIFORM


The Mapara Moboluwaduro community of Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State has been thrown into confusion since Tuesday, May 28, following the abduction of the community’s traditional ruler, Chief Lateef Adewale Amodemaja at about 10p.m.

Modemaja was whisked away in his ash coloured Pegeout car at about 10p.m on Tuesday by three men in police uniform. And since then, he had not returned home and his whereabouts  remained unknown.

The Deputy Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), Major-General Mamman Tsoho Kontagora (rtd) is dead. Kontagora who was in 2003 defeated by Isa Maina in the FCT senatorial primaries of the PDP was aged 69.

Kontagora, who was defeated by late president Umaru Musa Yar’adua during the presidential primaries of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2007 general elections, died in the late hours of Wednesday.

Tragedy struck in Bayelsa State in the wee hours of yesterday when generator fumes killed a mother and five of her children. Fve children of Mr. Celestine Onwudili and his wife, Chinyere, were found dead in their house located at Azikoro village road by neighbours yesterday morning.

Bayelsa State has been in total black out since May 18 when, during a downpour, a tree fell and destroyed the 33KVA transmitter transmitting electricity to the state from the Ahoada-Owerri axis of the Transmission Power Station.

There are indications that Rob Kardashian has settled with the photographer who accused him of robbery, stealing her camera equipment, and this will almost certainly mean the end of the criminal case against Rob.

PARAMOUNT STUDIOS SUES BUSTA RHYMES OVER RACKED RECORDING DEAL


According to reports, Busta Rhymes has just been sued for $70,300 by Paramount Recording Studios for allegedly stiffing it on a massive bill. It was reported that the star Hip Hop singer had an insane recording schedule.

PRS filed the lawsuit against Busta, claiming he racked up nearly 375 recording hours back in 2011-2012 and never paid a cent. The studio is now suing for its money back.

A relation of a former Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho (retd.), has been accused of killing his live-in lover.

The suspect, George Iheanacho, allegedly killed his 32-year-old partner, Regina James, the mother of his three children – two boys and a girl.

KENYAN GIRL WINS RAPE CASE AGAINST POLICE


A Kenyan High Court has ordered police to reinvestigate complaints of rape by 11 girls in a landmark case brought by a children’s charity on behalf of more than 240 victims of child rape, some of them as young as three years old.

Mercy Chidi, who runs the Ripples International children’s charity in Meru, Kenya, filed a petition on behalf of the girls, who came to the charity for help after being raped by fathers, grandfathers, uncles, police officers and neighbors.

Star actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde who has been on location in Hollywood, has returned to Nigeria in grand style.
