It was reported that an outbreak of cholera occurred two days back in Namu village, in the Qua’pan Local Government Area of Plateau state. It was revealed that eight people have been killed while 61 others have been hospitalized. The outbreak is attributed to overcrowding, dirty environment and the consumption of unhygienic food and water.

However, it has been disclosed that 50 people have been killed by the deadly disease as of yesterday Monday in Zamfara state. The infections struck Zamfara state where residents began drinking water directly from streams and untreated wells after a main water pipeline was forced to shut.

Road construction around state capital Gusau forced officials to close a main pump leading to water shortages in several parts of the state, forcing people to turn to streams and open wells for drinking water which led to the outbreak.
Cholera, a highly contagious intestinal infection, is transmitted by water soiled by human waste. The disease leads to diarrhoea, dehydration and death if untreated.
