The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has
presented certificate of conformity to the requirements of NIS ISO 22000:2005
Food Safety Management System Standards to Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers
of Cowbell Milk. The Director-General of SON, Dr. Joseph Odumodu made the
presentation to the Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria, Chief Keith
Richards recently in Lagos. In a release made available to Julia Blaise Blog (JBB) Odumodu noted that “by this impressive feat, this
company has now joined the league of the lofty class of Food Safety Management
System certified companies in Nigeria,” adding that only 17 organisations have
received this certification in Nigeria from SON and these are the few SON is
recommending to the public to patronise based on food safety considerations.
He commended Promasidor for the achievement,
remarking that it worthy of emulation by well meaning business community.
Odumodu said he strongly believed that achieving the
certification is a demonstration of conformity of the Promasidor’s management
system to internationally acceptable standard requirements and its ability to
get it right the first time and always.
He advised the company that the journey to
excellence that it has embarked upon does not have an end because quality is a
journey to infinity.
“My challenge to you today is to keep up the good
work that you have started and be up to date, to continually reap the benefit
of ISO approach to food safety management. We are already receiving information
from your customers to assure ourselves that you are living up to their
expectation,” he said.
Earlier in an address of welcome, Chief Richards
said the company would continue to improve on food safety and hygiene in a way
that would guarantee sound health of the teeming customers of the company’s
brands.
Keith noted that the company was built on vision and
innovation and strives to continue getting affordable products to the public.
The Managing Director, who went down the memory lane
on how Promasidor Nigeria was founded in 1977, explained that in a bid to
further assure its teeming customers of its commitment to providing quality
products that is safe and not deleterious at all times, the company decided to
embark on a journey of excellence, which was assiduously pursued.
“Promasidor Nigeria Limited sought for certification,
to NIS ISO 22000:2005 Standards (food safety management system). The system was
subjected to rigorous pre-assessment audits, by seasoned auditors from SON and
at the end of the assessment, the system was adjudged to have conformed to the
requirements of the international standards,” Richards said.
The Oba of Isolo land, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka who
lauded the excellence relationship between Promasidor and the Isolo community
described the certification as an honour well deserved.
He noted that Promasidor is one of the best
companies out of 165 companies in the community which is the second largest
industrial area in Lagos.
