Despite being in a state of emergency, the Governor of Yobe state, Ibrahim Gaidam, reshuffled his cabinet on Thursday, May 30, 2013 with the splitting of Ministry of Education, into Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher education. This development came three days after the Governor also declared a state of emergency in the state’s education and the health sectors. The secretary to the state government, Babagoni Machina revealed in his statement that “with the split of Ministry of Education into two, Aji Yerima Bularafa who is the former Commissioner of Youth and social development is to head the Higher Education Ministry while Mohammed Lamin of Transport and Energy, is to take charge of the Ministry of Education.”


The incumbent Commissioner of Education, Mala Musti, the statement said has been deployed to the Ministry of Land and Survey, while the former Commissioner, Yusuf Bala Haladu, becomes the new Commissioner for Transport and Energy.

The former Commissioner of Special Duties, Musa Dumbiri, according to the statement, is the Commissioner of Youths and Social Development.

The cabinet reshuffle and deployment takes immediate effect, as it was done to reinvigorate the state civil service.
